A few months ago, I read a great book called Thrive: Finding Happiness the Blue Zone Way by Dan Buettner. It was a fascinating book that describes many factors that can contribute to one’s happiness. The author traveled to 4 of the happiest places in the world to find out what they are doing differently there. He traveled to Denmark, Singapore, Mexico, and San Luis Obispo, California. In the USA Today there was an article ranking the world’s happiest countries. Here is the list:
- Denmark
- Finland
- Norway
- Netherlands
- Canada
- Switzerland
- Sweden
- New Zealand
- Australia
- Ireland
- United States
- Costa Rica
- Austria
- Israel
- Belgium
So, what can we learn from Denmark and other nations and places with high happiness quotients? Here are some ideas from the author of Thrive:

In Conclusion, he says you should try to:
- Set reasonable goals for your life

What are some strategies you use to find more happiness in your life?

Great post. I am going to have to check into this book. Thanks!
You definitely should! It was very interesting!
Though they are all good, I especially like “take time to appreciate the arts”
Also think it’s great that it urges us to create a vibrant space at home, too. I believe that’s an area we all have the control/ability to improve (and the benefits are huge). Thanks for sharing! Like Luann/Terry said, I’m intrigued and wanting to read this now.
I agree! (and need to do this myself!) I plan on doing it soon
Thanks for the comment!
