The Meaning of Soul Nectar
During my life-changing trip to Guatemala for my yoga teacher training, I was instructed in four phases: the serpent, the jaguar, the hummingbird, and the eagle. The phase of the hummingbird touched me the deepest. The hummingbird phase is at the level of the soul and is expressed through images, music, poetry, dreams, beauty, and the wonders of creation. The hummingbird perceives the world as a place of beauty, only tasting the nectar, or the sweetness of life. It travels an epic journey from Chile to Canada regardless of an inability to fly perceived by others and overcomes the difficulties in the journey. I felt a deep connection with the hummingbird’s journey, feeling it resembled the journey of my own life and that of others, searching for what makes our souls come alive.
I became a big health nut in 2009 when I was having terrible issues with my sinuses and the medical community (multiple doctors, nurses) could not find an answer other than telling me to take medication to just cover up my symptoms. I knew this was not the answer for me. I started looking into health from a natural perspective, and (long story short) I cured my sinus issues (and a whole slew of other health concerns)! Yay! I read lots of books and researched on all things wellness.
In December of 2011 I started this health & fitness blog because so many of my family and friends would ask me questions about their own health & wellness problems, so I decided I’d put it all in one place and give others the opportunity to learn from what I’ve learned, too! Then, in 2012 I took it a step further and became a certified personal trainer, and in 2013 I became a certified yoga instructor.
Jamie is an ACSM certified personal trainer, SYI 200 hour certified yoga instructor. She graduated with her Master’s degree from Western Michigan University. When she’s not focusing on all things wellness, she spends her time reading, hanging with her family, and getting outside as much as possible. She lives with her naturally zen-ed out, supportive husband, Kenny, sweet, goofy two year old daughter, Callie, and crazy little Yorkie poo, Roe.
Come join me on this journey of continual growth and change to be the amazing person you were meant to be.
